Walmart Combats Food Deserts

UPDATE: A full post about the event is here.
The video, above, was played in the East Room before First Lady Obama took the stage this afternoon to announce major new corporate commitments for the Let's Move! campaign, designed to eliminate food deserts.

Leslie Dach, Executive VP of Corporate Affairs for Walmart, explains the company's plans. He joined Mrs. Obama on stage during her announcement. In January, Walmart made the commitment to open outlets in food deserts, when executives joined Mrs. Obama in Washington to announce their Nutrition Charter. Walmart has now set a target date of 2016 for building 275-300 stores in communities across the US. About 800,000 people in rural and urban areas with limited or no access to grocery options will be served, Dach says. He joined Mrs. Obama onstage during her announcement today. The transcript of Mrs. Obama's remarks is here.
