21 Dead In Cantaloupe Listeria Outbreak

The latest numbers from CDC...23 states involved...
The latest numbers from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak: A total of 109 persons infected with any of the four outbreak-associated strains have been reported to CDC from 23 states, and 21 deaths have been reported. All illnesses started on or after July 31, 2011. The most recent outbreak map, above.

Note: Listeria infection can take up to two months to manifest, so the numbers may be incorrect. Also, reporting is based on verified cases, so the numbers of both illnesses and deaths could be higher. Follow Marlerblog.com for the most timely reporting on the investigation and outbreak updates.

Twenty-one deaths: 5 in Colorado, 1 in Indiana, 2 in Kansas, 1 in Maryland, 1 in Missouri, 1 in Nebraska, 5 in New Mexico, 1 in New York, 1 in Oklahoma, 2 in Texas, and 1 in Wyoming. In addition, one woman pregnant at the time of illness had a miscarriage.
